The quest for a new mobile phone or a new smartphone often starts on the Internet. Most people have some mobile phone types and examples in the back of their mind before they start surfing the Internet and start comparing mobile phones, to go for the mobile phone that best suits their desires, needs and requirements. Xantel is a Dutch company which takes a completely different approach in comparison to its most important competitors. Instead of running a web shop they are hosting a blog on which they publish an article about each of the mobile phones that are for sale via their website. The Xantel website urgently needed a refresh because the original developer had made a complete mess of the old website. Xantel decided to appeal to our company to rebuild their website. They requested to maintain the original design and to go for a complete refresh of the current HTML and for a Wordpress conversion.

Preserving the original style

Based on their request we weren’t going to have a standard PSD to Wordpress project but an exceptional HTML to Wordpress project. Major part of the original HTML was preserved but adjusted in order to preserve the previously developed and designed style. Before we could kick off our project we sat together with the client and went over the whole website and all functionalities. This is a standard part of our process because we want to be in complete agreement with the client. After we commonly agreed on the approach, the HTML developer could initiate the project. First of all he removed all unnecessary HTML and he made the document as clean as possible. Although the website did contain a stylesheet and consequently our developer didn’t have to start from scratch, he still had to make a fair amount of adjustments to replicate a similar website lay-out as the original website.

From HTML to Wordpress theme

Upon completing the HTML and CSS, our Wordpress developer could get to work. He only needed about two days to convert the whole project to a fully-functional Wordpress theme. The actual conversion process didn’t take too long because the website only consisted of 4 different pages. We also activated the search functionality and the form after which our client could start filling his website with the required content. Because the old website had about 100 mobile phones stored in its database it still took the client quite some time to add all these mobile phones to his new website. Fortunately the client had some spare time and he managed to finish this time-consuming task in half a day, after which the website could be launched. We installed everything on the client’s server after which he could focus again on his website and could continue adding new mobile phones.
